Lygia Barbosa

Lygia Barbosa is a filmmaker with over 25 years of experience in the audiovisual market. Throughout her career, she has worked on a variety of projects, including commercials, music videos, and feature films such as "Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum, the Movie" by Cao Hamburger. She has directed TV series and documentaries such as "20 Poucos Anos" (MTV Brazil), considered the first Brazilian reality show, "The Paths of Che: A Motorcycle Diary", "Across the Amazon", "Secret Brazil" (NATGEO), and "Back to Bikini" (FOX).
Lygia was one of the directors of the daily program "Zapping Zone" (Disney Channel) and created the children's animated series "Caco e Dado" (TV Cultura and Gloob). She directed and served as executive producer for "Laerte-se", the first Brazilian original documentary for Netflix. As the winner of the KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency) grant, she directed and produced documentaries such as "Haenyeo: The Strength of the Sea" and "Flavors of the Temple: The Simplicity of Healing". For KBS (Korean Broadcast System), she produced "Tears from Favela" by Yun Chea Wan and special reports on Venezuelan refugees, combating cross-border crimes Brazil-Paraguay, the impacts of Belo Monte, and the pandemic in Brazil.
Currently, Lygia is the director of the TV series "Mar Brasil", a journey along the Brazilian coast available on Canal Futura and Globoplay. Her recent documentaries include "Pantanal: Waters Plain" and "Invaders", about invasive species, broadcasted on NHK Japan.
In 2024, she is in post-production for two feature documentaries: "Wallace, The Great Journey", filmed in Brazil and the Malay Archipelago, and "Fisher's Voice", endorsed by UNESCO, filmed in six countries: Brazil, Indonesia, Philippines, Peru, and Mozambique, both supported by the Korean KCA fund.
Lygia is also a founding member of the Women's League for the Ocean.
