PAULO GAMBALE MAKá

Cinematographer, Film Director

Paulo Gambale, Maká began his journey in 1996 in post-production for advertising films. His career took an adventurous turn in 2003 when he was invited to join a National Geographic Channel expedition across Brazil as a Director and Cinematographer.

Following this, Paulo documented a medical expedition among isolated tribes in the Brazilian Amazon's Vale do Javari in 2004, capturing their research and indigenous culture. Inspired by these experiences, he embarked on numerous expeditions throughout South America and Africa.

Since 2005, Paulo Gambale has primarily focused on cinematography and serves as a Director of Photography (DoP), operating the camera for documentaries and occasionally directing his own projects. He leads GramaFilmes, his production company based in São Paulo, Brazil, and where he contributes as a film director and also oversees editing. Additionally, a branch of GramaFilmes in Portugal is led by his partner, Filipi do Canto.

Over the past five years, Paulo has been involved in numerous documentary productions worldwide, including an HBO series in the Amazon and collaborations with directors like Jorge Bodanzki in Brazil, and Lygia Barbosa in South Korea. Together with partner Filipi do Canto, Lygia Barbosa, Luciano Candisani and Raphael Scire, they have produced diverse content across Brazil, Europe and Asia.
